Pregnant woman hangs self

Two people ended their lives in the City on Monday night.

A pregnant woman allegedly hanged herself after a quarrel with her husband late on Monday night. Shalini, 27, was a resident of Lingarajapuram. Family sources said she was in love with Nandakishore, a gym instructor, and had married him an year ago with the consent of both the families.

Nandakishore told the police that Shalini was short-tempered and often quarelled with him over trivial issues. He said that on Monday night too she picked a fight with him and later locked herself up in the bedroom. Half an hour later, when she did not respond to his call, he broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. He lowered her and rushed her to a nearby private hospital. However, she was declared brought dead.

An autopsy was performed at Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College on Tuesday afternoon and the body handed over to her family. The tahsildar also recorded the statement of her father, as is mandatory for any unnatural death before seven years of marriage. Her family has made no allegations against Nandakishore and said Shalini’s suicide was an unfortunate incident. Banaswadi police have registered a case and are investigating the case.

In another incident, a construction worker was found hanging dead on Tuesday morning at a building site in RBI Layout. The deceased has been identified as Nandish, 26, a native of Maddur. The incident came to light when his co-workers discovered his body hanging from the ceiling on the second floor on Monday night. The reason for his death is yet to be ascertained. Subramanyapura police have registered a case.
