Akka Pade to be operational in three months in Karnataka

Udupi: Minister for Women and Child Development Laxmi Hebbalkar has said that “Akka Pade,” a women’s protection force, will be operational in three months in the state.

“Anganwadi centres—first started 50 years ago in T Narasipura, Mysuru by former prime minister Indira Gandhi—have completed five decades of service. To mark the milestone, the government would roll out Akka Pade within three months,” Hebbalkar said.

She was speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed gram panchayat building at Nire-Kanjar in Karkala.

The minister said each taluk would have one unit of Akka Pade, comprising policewomen and NCC-trained members, equipped with arms and proper training. Helplines would be set up in bus stands and temple fair premises. “This force will not only respond to public but also act against domestic violence and injustices within homes,” she added.
