Many youngsters in the City will be making new year resolutions this year too, as always. Some have decided to break free of a bad habit, while some have thought about changing their lifestyle for the better. And each one of them are doing it in their favourite way.

There are those who start the New Year by purchasing new things. They believe that it symbolises good luck and prosperity in the coming days. Narayan, an entrepreneur in dental equipment, is one such person who ushers in the new year in a unique manner by purchasing a special and expensive thing on the day.
“This year, I will go for a four-wheeler and the procedure is on,” he says. “I believe the new year brings a kind of positive energy and pushes me towards my goal. Hence I buy something expensive on January 1. But not anything that is too heavy on my pocket. Last year, I purchased a laptop, the year before that, I bought a new bike. These new things encourage me to work harder,” he says.

New Year's eve has always been a time to look back to the past and anticipate the coming year. Nagma, a PUC student in PES College, has been making resolutions since the last three years. This year, she is yet to think about it.
“Earlier, I was short tempered and used to be angry every moment. Next year, I’ve decided to master patience. My friends are happy about my decision to change my behaviour. Earlier, I had made a resolution to reduce my weight and also minimise the use of cosmetics. This year, I have plans to please my mom because she always complains about me,” she says.

There are some students who have taken oath to study harder and show excellent performances in the coming year. Manoj D S, an MBA student, has plans to study harder from day one in the year 2010 and aspires to score distinction. “Every year I make the same resolution but it is there only for a couple of months. This year, I am a bit serious about my studies and will definitely score well. It is hard to get a job these days,” he says.
