KG Nagar residents for probe into police inspector's suspension

Last Updated 20 October 2014, 20:48 IST

Residents of KG Nagar have sought an inquiry into the episode leading to the suspension of police inspector C D Nagaraj recently.

In separate letters to governor, chief minister, home minister, DG&IGP, Secretary (Home), City Police Commissioner, Additional Commissioner (Law and Order)
and DCP (South) they demanded a thorough probe.

Claiming that C D Nagaraj was an upright police officer and had become victim of professional jealousy, they sought immediate intervention of senior police officers and demanded rejection of the inquiry report submitted by DCP (Southeast) Rohini Katoch Sepat.

A senior police officer misled the DCP due to personal rivalry. The DCP did not
consider ground realities and submitted a report based on pre-determined statements.

A case was registered against police inspector C D Nagaraj without recording his statement. An inquiry will reveal the truth, they added.
There are evidences to prove C D Nagaraj was innocent and did not have hand
in the suicide of a youth and subsequent violence, they added.

Case booked

“We have booked a case against C D Nagaraj under IPC Section 306 (abetment to suicide). He is absconding and a sessions court rejected his bail. He is trying for a bail in High Court,” a senior police officer said.

The police have launched a search operation to trace him and the decision to suspend him was taken based on the recommendations of the in-charge DCP Dr Rohini Katoch Sepat, the officer added.

Pradeep, a resident of 4th cross in Lakshmipura, was found hanging at his house on August 23. It was alleged that harassment by the local police led his suicide.

‘Cop harassed man’

Soon, violence broke out in the locality as a section of the society demanded action against the police responsible for the incident.

They alleged that police inspector C D Nagaraju kept Pradeep in illegal custody, harassed and demanded bribe to set him free.

The police took Pradeep into custody after he misbehaved with the wife of a
tenant.

The post-mortem report indicated presence of alcohol in his blood.
Senior officers visited the spot and an inquiry was ordered.
C D Nagaraj was suspended the same night. Later, a case was registered. Nagaraj has been absconding ever since.
