City woman killed in early morning robbery

Robbers killed a 55-year-old homemaker, who was on her way to a milk booth, and made away with her gold chain and a pair of gold bangles at Shankar Nagar under Nandini Layout police limits in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police said the victim, Muddu Lakshmi, and her husband Thimanna, a retired KEB employee, were residents of the locality for almost 40 years.

At 5 am on Tuesday, Muddu Lakshmi was walking towards a milk booth on the road next to her house. Some miscreants assaulted her with a weapon and fled with her chain and bangles. They did not rob her earrings

Thimanna’s brother, who lives nearby, found Lakshmi lying in a pool of blood and informed her husband. She was already dead. They reported the crime to the police, who sent the body for post-mortem.

A senior police officer who visited the spot said, “It appears Lakshmi was hit on the head with a weapon as she resisted the robbery bid. The victim’s head was almost split open. She succumbed to her injuries due to excess bleeding. It is purely murder for gain.”

“There are several houses in the locality, but none of the residents were aware of the incident. Since the thieves spared her earrings, it shows that they had come to snatch her gold chain. They targeted her after watching her routine,” added the officer. The deceased’s married daughter lives in Varthur, said the police.
