In a display of immaturity and arrogance, an MLA of the ruling  Samajwadi Party (SP) and his wife joined a fight between two fifth standard classmates one of whom was their son and allegedly slapped the other one before the school authorities in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly town, about 250 kilometres from here.

Taking a serious view of the slapping of their child by the MLA and his wife, the parents lodged a complaint and sought action against them but the school management played safe and ruled out any action.

According to the report, Samar (name changed) and the child of the SP MLA, who studied at a prestigious convent school in Bareilly, had a fight a few days back.

It was alleged that Samar had beaten the MLA’s son with an iron rod in the school.

On hearing about the incident, SP MLA Shezil Islam and his wife came to the school on Tuesday, summoned Samar in the office of the principal and allegedly slapped him besides twisting his ear, Samar’s mother alleged.

The MLA alleged that Samar had taken Rs 5,000 from his son. Furious over the slapping, Samar’s mother approached the school authorities and sought action in the matter.

The school management, however, preferred to avoid taking on the powerful politician and tried to persuade the concerned parties to ‘forget’ about the incident.

“There is no need to take action in the matter. The matter has been resolved amicably. The sections of the two children will be changed and they would be given counseling,” said a school management functionary.

The functionary said that the children used to exchange toffees and chocolates and had good relations.

“There was not much of a problem with the children, their parents had lost their cool,” he added. He also denied that Samar had taken Rs 5,000 from the other boy.
