Senior IPS officer R P Sharma allegedly picked a quarrel with Bangalore Club security personnel over denying him entry inside the club.

Following arguments with security personnel, Sharma’s car driver lodged a complaint with the Cubbon Park police station.

The incident took place at 4.30 pm at the entrance of the club on Residency Road. Sharma, now the Additional Director General Police (Railways), had come there to meet his acquaintance.

The security personnel at the gate stopped the car and demanded the pass. The officer directed the security personnel not to block the road as he was a club member, said the police.

The security personnel demanded Sharma to produce his club membership card and valid pass to park the vehicle inside. Soon, Sharma lost his cool and blasted the security for their behaviour.

Acted tough

The security staff acted tough and told him that they would not permit him inside till he produced the membership card and valid pass for the vehicle, added the police.

Soon, a supervisor along with a few others rushed outside the gate, on seeing a tense situation. He identified Sharma and told the security staff that Sharma was a club member. It was then that he was allowed to walk inside, added the police.

Reacting to the incident, Sharma told Deccan Herald: “I came to the club to meet a senior officer. The security staff blocked my entry and demanded me to produce the membership card. They permitted me inside only when a supervisor rushed and directed them to permit me inside.”

Sharma claimed that he was in no way responsible for an argument between the security staff and his driver. “The security staff did not permit my driver to park the car. They abused him in Hindi. My driver lodged a complaint with the Cubbon Park police in this regard,” he said.

The officer addressed a letter to the club president seeking action against the security staff for their act of denying the entry even when he had the membership card.

“We received a complaint from Sharma’s car driver. We have summoned the driver and the security staff for questioning. We are trying to ascertain more details,” DCP (Central) Sandeep Patil said.
