Children make a beeline to Zoo, Palace

Popular tourist destinations of the city, Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Amba Vilas Palace and Exhibition Grounds, attracted thousands of children, due to free entry provided for children on account of Children’s Day.

As many as 14,800 children from various schools of the district visited the Zoo for free, between 8.30 am and 1 pm, and the number was more at Exhibition Grounds. Owing to an increase in footfall at the Zoo, separate arrangements were made for the entry of students. Zoo also deputed additional security personnel near the tiger, lion, chimpanzee and other enclosures.

Close to 20,000 children visited the Exhibition Grounds, where free entry was provided for children between 9 am and 3 pm. Refreshments were arranged at the venue for children, by the Exhibition Authority, with the help of individuals who had put up stalls at the premises. A large number of children also visited the Amba Vilas Palace during the day.

Film festival
Close to 2,000 students from various schools of the city, participated in the International Children’s Film Festival, which was inaugurated during the day. Children’s films were screened at Prabha, Woodland and Sterling theatres in the city. The film festival is being organised by Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, department of Women and Child Development and the Department of Public Instruction.

The festival will be held for a period of seven days, during which more than a thousand students from government and private schools of the city will take part. A total of 15 films will be screened during the period.

Children’s Day was celebrated by the district administration at Zilla Panchayat premises, which was inaugurated by ZP president Pushpavathi Amarnath. An interaction with children from various parts of the district was also held at the venue.
