Subbu, alias Subramani, 20, an orphan, was found murdered in a house in the Slum Board quarters in Kaveri Nagar under the Rajagopal Nagar police limits on Saturday.

The body of the victim, a resident of Munnibuchamma Ashram in Laggere, was found when the residents were drawn by the stench emanating from their neighbour’s house and checked through the window. They alerted the police, who visited the spot, and shifted the body for postmortem.

The police said Subbu was residing in the ashram, but of late he was leading a life of vagabond. He often used to visit his friend’s house in the mornings, when the latter’s mother left for work. He used to sleep in the house till his friend’s mother returned.

Gradually, he gained control over his juvenile friend and used to thrash the boy if he failed to obey his orders.

A senior police officer said the boy, who works in a welding shop, was frustrated with Subbu’s behaviour. On Friday, Subbu, who noticed the boy going to work, called him. He forced him to open the lock of the house so that he could sleep. On Saturday, the neighbours found the body lying in the house.

“The victim was found with his head smashed with a cement block. For now, our prime suspect is the boy. His identity cannot be revealed as he is a juvenile. Circumstantial evidence shows the boy has killed him, but it cannot be confirmed immediately,” the officer said.

Recently, the boy’s mother had gone to her native Ramanahalli, as her husband had died. Subbu has an attempt-to-murder and dacoity attempt case against him in the Rajagopal Nagar police station.

A case has been registered and investigation is on.

Raj bust defacers detained

The West Division police detained seven persons on Saturday in connection with the defacing of Kannada actor Dr Rajkumar’s bust.

Police said the suspects are residents of Bangarappa Layout in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and are all above 20 years. It is suspected that the bust was set on fire out of jealousy, as a few people wanted to instal Shankar Nag’s statue, instead of Rajkumar’s bust.

A senior police officer said that investigations were on to know the reason behind the act. The bust of Rajkumar was set afire by miscreants in the early hours of Thursday in Bangarappa Layout. KRV activists and members of Rajkumar’s fans associations had protested seeking the arrest of miscreants.
