Even when the government boasts of releasing crores for improving the tribal lives, the residents of three layouts (basically tribes) laid down by the TMC in Kadur still live in a pathetic condition.

The residents are devoid of basic facilities such as water and proper houses. The houses had leaky roofs and may collapse at any time. The residents are leading a pathetic life.

When Hakki Pikki tribes were wondering in APMC land near Kadur bus stand 15 years, the then MLA mooted the concept of creating a layout for the tribes. Thus K M Thammaiah layout was formed.

Along with Thammaiah layout, the TMC had created M Veerabadrappa and P B Omkaramurthy layouts to cater to the needs of the Hakki pikki, Shilyekyataru, Koracha Korama, Bhovi and other tribes.

The layouts come under the fourth ward of the TMC. There are 150 families residing in the layouts. To avail financial assistance to construct houses, they had pledged the land document. However, even after several years, the residents are devoid of basic facilities.

All the land belonging to three layouts were under Malleshwara gram panchayat. Later it was included in the TMC limits. The TMC has been urging the Malleshwara GP to provide the basic facilities.

On the other hand, Malleshwara GP has been demanding the TMC to provide the facilities.  In P B Omkarmurthy layout electric poles have been laid. However, houses are still living in darkness. Mescom official has failed to provide a letter to the TMC stating that electricity connection can be given to the households.

Without electricity the residents live in fear during night. Wild animals like bear, fox, wolf that come to the neighbouring farm land in search of food enter the layouts also. The layouts have only one primary school. There is no anganwadi centre for the kids.

All the residents have to depend on one borewell  water needs.  The Zilla Panchayat had constructed one lakh litre capacity tank in 2006. However, connections have not been given to the households. With the use of explosives in a quarry at Thuruvanahalli hillock, the houses have developed cracks.  “The tribes have received a roof over their head.

However, no basic facilities have been provided. We have pledged our land document to avail fund to construct houses. Our houses are on the verge of collapse. If we fail to get the land document back, then we are planning to stage a protest,” said three layout residents Kshemabhivridhi Sangha President Shankarappa.

“We have come here eight years ago. However, we do not have any relief. None listen to our woes,” said Sthree Shakti Sangha President Rekha.
