'Make use of RTI, control corruption in govt departments'

Inaugurating a workshop in Right to Information Act-2005 organised at Hudikere Kodava Samaja bhavan on Tuesday, she said that each and every citizen has the right to know how various government departments are functioning and whether the tax collected from them are being utilised properly or not. “Administrative machinery will be alert and active if the citizens come forth to make use of right to information and start questioning the officials and make them accountable,” she said. Resource person of the programme, Prabhu from Bharatha Girijana Shikshana Samsthe said that right to information has brought freedom to people in true sense.

“RTI is a blessing for sincere and honest officials and a bane to corrupt ones. This right given to people will bring in transparency in administration,” he said.

Resource persons Suraj said that though RTI came into force in 2005, usage of the same in the district is comparatively lesser. Hence there is a need to spread awareness on RTI to enable more and more people to come forth and make use of it.

“The citizens can send in their query on a Rs 10 postal order addressed to the officials concerned and the officials are required to answer them within 30 days,” he said and added that RTI has enforced the belief that citizens are supreme.
