Former captain Jaywardene was flown in along with opener Mahela Udawatte and uncapped wicketkeeper and middle-order batsman Dinesh Chandimal and the trio joined the squad here on Wednesday.

Jayawardene was not picked for the tournament, also involving hosts Bangladesh and India, after picking up an injury last month in the one-day series against India.

“He is now fit and ready to play,” Lanka manager Brendon Kuruppu said.
They have been called following injuries to middle-order batsman Chamara Silva, who has been ruled out of the tournament with a broken thumb, Tillakaratne Dilshan and all-rounder Muthumudalige Pushpakumara.

While Dilshan will remain with the squad under team physio’s observation, Silva and Pushpakumara will fly back home. Dilshan had suffered a groin injury on Monday en route to a match-winning century in the opening match of the tournament against Bangladesh but he missed the match against India on Tuesday. “He is not ruled out yet but we will assess his situation before our next match,” said Kuruppu. Pushpakumara injured his right shoulder while fielding during the match against India.

Sri Lanka face Bangladesh in their next match on Friday.
