Toyota unveils Prius

In tune with the ongoing Auto Expo’s theme –– green technology ––  Toyota launched the third generation hybrid car ‘Prius’ through its Indian joint venture TKMPL, priced between Rs 26.55 lakh and Rs 27.86 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi). Stating that the new car will be imported from Japan in Completely Built Unit (CBU) form TKMPL Deputy Managing Director Sandeep Singh told reporters that it will be available in 10 select Indian cities from March this year, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Pune and Ahmedabad.
Battery operated
Fitted with a 1.8 litre petrol engine with a battery of 60 kilowatt, the car boasts of three driving modes –– power mode, eco mode and the electric vehicle mode (battery).
Pointing out that the company is not looking at the volume, Singh said “We are targeting this car for eco-conscious celebrities and industrialists. Through this we want to popularise environmentally friendly vehicles in India,” however, adding that TKMPL targets to sell 200 units of ‘Prius’ in the current year beginning from March.
