A 30-year-old Priya (name changed), herself a HIV patient, was the joint secretary of Karnataka Network for Positive (KNP+).

She reportedly questioned the president, Saroja Putran, about accountability on the spending and the maladministration in the organisation, during one of the board meetings.

Since she was not given a proper reply, Priya conducted meeting with other members of the organisation for which she was removed from her post, she has said in her suicide note, a copy of which is in possession of Deccan Herald.

The note also alleges that she was mentally tortured after being removed from her post. It also mentions of another office-bearer Sharath who faced the same situation and died due to illness subsequently.

“Priya used to tell me that she was being tortured by few members of the organisation after she raised her voice against certain irregularities in the organisation,” said Srinivas Reddy, executive board member, KNP+. She had alleged that funds raised from public with the help of HIV positive people had been misused.
Priya is now admitted at the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital. President Saroja who arrived at the hospital with an advocate told mediapersons that she was unaware of the reason for Priya’s attempt.

“There was no problem in the organisation as far as the projects were concerned. I am not sure, if she had any other personal problems,” she said.

When contacted, the Srirampura police said the matter has to be looked into. However, Priya’s statement will be recorded at the hospital on Friday.
