Be it sweeping reality shows on small screen or making big numbers in cinema, Yami Gautam has enamoured the audience with her composure and bubbly persona. The actress, who can almost pass off for a college student, is waiting for the release of her next film, ‘Badlapur’, after a stunning debut in the romantic comedy, ‘Vicky Donor’. In the City to promote the film, she spoke about her journey in the industry so far.

Her first film was ‘Ullasa Utsaha’ in Kannada and on analysing both the industries, Yami says that she has received an immense amount of love and support from both, which has motivated her throughout her journey. “I was a newcomer when I first came into the Sandalwood industry and the first experience is always close to the heart. I had to learn everything from scratch but I was happy that I worked in a very conducive atmosphere where I felt very loved.”

Yami adds that she considers herself lucky to garner experiences from both industries. “The sheer amount of diversity within Sandalwood and
Bollywood amazes me,” she says.

It is not surprising then that she is happy to come back to Bengaluru and savour the
warmth of her Kannadiga fans. One who has always enjoyed being in Bengaluru due to the “young, exciting and energetic crowd”, she says that she was extremely happy that fans have accepted her as a “Kannada hudugi” and coming back to the City is as good as coming back home.

Describing ‘Badlapur’ as a gripping thriller, interspersed with drama and action, she says that the entire movie is about change and how various issues touch the common man.

Not wanting to give away the crux, Yami says that she doesn’t want to advice the audience on what they should take away after watching the movie.
“It’s upto them as to how they want to interpret it. The movie is  great fun. Acting with leading stars like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi and Varun Dhawan proved to be a very fruitful experience.”

Yami will be seen playing a young mother in the movie and describes her role “challenging”.

Yami’s three cornerstones before choosing her film are the director, story and character. When asked if she will soon be seen in the Sandalwood industry, Yami smiles and says, “My next projects are two back-to-back musical love stories with T-series.”
