The much-awaited green space encompassing exotic flowers is all set to open for the public at the MG Road Metro station in the next few days.

Officials of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) say that this way, they want to give the iconic space back to the City, which every resident used to associate himself with prior to the construction of the station.

The urban green space landmark - a sprawling art gallery of sorts with more than 1,000 varieties of plants from across the world and 50 types of flowers - is almost ready. It will have exotic flowers and plants, all potted in beautiful pots, bottles, test tubes for people to admire and buy.

BMRCL officials said that the aim was to break the monotony of concrete structures at the station having pillars and stairs. It will be a landmark which greets people as they enter the station. Arun Kumar of Global Eco Club has taken up the project.

Endangered flowers

The 18-foot wide and 18-foot high structure is ready with glass walls, to house even endangered varieties of flowers from the Western Ghats.

Vasanth Rao from BMRCL told Deccan Herald, “The idea is to develop green space at the station so as to tone down the concrete structures and to let people enjoy the greenery. They can also take the plants and flowers home if they wish. We will develop the concept at other stations too, wherever there will is availability of space.”

The BMRCL, which drew flak for taking over the boulevard, is doing its bit to restore the greenery.

The gallery will also have an exhibition-cum-sale of cut flowers like rose, carnation, orchid and lily. The place will offer tips to people on how to take care the flowers and plants at home.
