Jumbo passport mela held in all PSKs

Last Updated 14 March 2015, 21:15 IST

To expedite the application process in view of the high demand for passport services in Karnataka, a ‘Jumbo Passport Mela’ was organized on Saturday from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm at all the four Passport Seva Kendra’s (PSK) in the State including Lalbagh (Bengaluru), Sai Arcade (Bengaluru), Hubbali and Mangaluru.

The Regional Passport Office (RPO) Bengaluru has conducted three melas each, at all the four locations in the State within this year, benefiting more than 14,100 applicants. Besides holding such Jumbo Melas during weekends on a regular basis, the RPO has also doubled the daily number of appointment slots released to applicants across the four PSKs to cut down on the waiting time for normal appointments in Karnataka.

As a result of all these measures, the waiting time for normal appointments in this jurisdiction has been brought down to 6-11 calendar days, as against 40-50 days earlier.

A number of other assertive steps such as conducting passport camps at non-PSK district headquarters of Karwar, Mysuru, Belagavi and Davangere, elongated appointment cycle, maximum utilisation of slots/capacity, incentivising police to submit verification reports within 21 days, launch of mPassportSeva App on Windows and Apple platforms, premium SMS service (optional) etc have also been taken by the authorities to make passport application process hassle-free for citizens.

All applicants can easily keep track of their passport application by checking the status online using their file number and date of birth on the Passport Seva portal (www.passportindia.gov.in).
