Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande has directed the Principal Secretary of Higher Education, Bharath Lal Meena, to suspend Katepaga Vijayakumar, the Registrar (Administration) of Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari.
The Lokayukta police had caught Vijayakumar taking bribe earlier this week. The BJP’s Ganesh Karnik raised the issue in the Legislative Council. Deshpande promised to have him suspended by Thursday evening. Later, the minister instructed the principal secretary to suspend him.
Vijayakumar, according to the Lokayukta, was arrested when he was taking Rs one lakh as bribe from Akhil Ahmed for the renewal of affiliation of Royal BEd college.
