Applications invited for Japanese govt scholarship

The Japanese Government Scholarship (Monbukagakusho:MEXT) applications are open for the year 2016.

Students who want to study in Japanese universities (undergraduate programme), colleges of technology and in specialised training colleges can avail the scholarship. The benefits of the scholarship are free tuition fees, monthly stipend and return air ticket. Applicants should have completed high school education and class 12 or equivalent and should be between 17 and 21 years old.

The undergraduate programme is a five-year programme, with one year of Japanese language training and four years of bachelor degree course.

The college of technology on the other hand, is a four year programme, with one year of language training and three years of associated degree course. The colleges of technology provide practical and professional engineering education based on an integrated system, which includes general and specialised learning.

The specialised training colleges offer a three year programme with one year of language training and two years of associated certificate course. Specialised training colleges are vocational schools that run courses in specialised subjects at the higher education level.

The deadline for submitting the application is June 17. Students selected for the scholarship will leave for Japan in April 2016, according to an official press release from the Consulate of Japan, Bengaluru.
