The BJP on Friday petitioned the State Election Commission (SEC) that photos of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on the packets of palm oil and salt provided to BPL families violated model poll of conduct ahead of the gram panchayat polls.

In a memorandum submitted to SEC Commissioner P N Srinivasachary signed by legislators Ashwathnarayana, Jagadish Kumar and media cell in charge S Prakash, the party stated that ruling Congress had resorted to cheap publicity by depicting the pictures of Siddaramaiah and Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Dinesh Gundu Rao on packets of palm oil and salt. The scheme, in fact, was being funded by the central government, they stated.

Gram Panchayat in the State will be held in two phases on May 29 and June 2. The BJP has sought the intervention of the SEC.
