Protests against Modi government

Last Updated 26 May 2015, 20:44 IST

Various political parties in the City took out protests against the BJP government led by Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

Members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) observed the last rites ceremony of ‘Achhe din’ in front of the Gandhi Statue at Anand Rao Circle. Communist Party of India (CPI)- Bangalore District Council members held a demonstration in front of Town Hall. Educationist Dr G Ramakrishna, who was addressing the crowd at the CPI protest, said: “Modi has been making false promises to the people for the last one year. All the achievements he boasts of today are mere castles in the air.” Around 400 to 500 people who gathered in front of Town Hall, slammed the 'Make in India' campaign and termed it as a scheme for the benefit of corporates and foreign capital investment.

Members from Centre of Indian Trade Unions, who protested in front of Navarang Theatre, Rajajinagar, and later at Banashankari, said the NDA
government has failed to address the concerns of the common man and is instead favouring only the elite section of society.

AAP members termed the policies of the Narendra Modi government as anti-middle class. “We also condemn the land acquisition bill and the Road Transport and Safety Bill 2014 proposed by the Centre.

The land bill will affect farmers and the road safety act on the other hand has
unnecessary components such as heavy penalty for violation of rules, imprisonment among others,” said H B Gangaraju, secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions.

Traffic jams
Traffic jams were reported at Anand Rao Circle, Majestic, Rajajinagar near Navrang theatre and Town Hall.
The traffic police, however, said that the situation was brought under control.
