Works on Bengaluru-Hassan rail route would be completed soon and the train service would commence by next year, said Divisional Railway Manager, SWR, Mysuru division, Rajkumar Lal.

Addressing media persons, at Hassan Railway Station, on Tuesday, he explained about various railway projects under progress, related to the district.

Speaking about the Hassan-Bengaluru railway service, Lal said, the railway track works are nearing completion and the service between the two cities would begin in mid 2016.
Lal said, the railway crossing will not be set up in Hassan, as it is one the important station and hence it has been decided to set up an exclusive crossing station at Koramangala, on the outskirts of Hassan.

Facilities

A water purifying unit would be set up at Hassan railway station to provide pure drinking water to the passengers. Two Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM) will be installed within two weeks at the station. Besides, a few other stations would be directed to keep printed tickets ready and issue them within five minutes. Priority would be given to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in railway stations and also provide basic amenities, he added.

No proposal

The Railways have not received any proposal for the construction of an over-bridge near the Hassan new bus stand.

Tenders have been invited for the construction of over-bridges at Hangaravalli and Holenarasipur, and works would begin in three months, he said.

No additional trains

Though there is a demand for additional trains between Bengaluru-Mangaluru, Rajkumar Lal ruled it out, saying it is impossible to introduce new trains as there is no provisions for crossing in the ghat section. It is not possible to run trains at more than 25 kmph on the section, hence there will be no daily trains on the stretch, he said.
