Rain lashes Dakshina, Uttara Kannada dists

Moderate to heavy rains lashed Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts on Saturday.

Incessant rain pounded Bhatkal taluk (Uttara Kannada district) from Friday night to Saturday noon, bringing relief for farmers.

The showers has triggered agricultural activities in the taluk which was reeling under water scarcity. The non-stop rains filled dried up ponds, tanks and wells.

A mud road was washed away in Jali Taggaragod, affecting movement of villagers. A compound wall of a house collapsed in Moosanagar. However, there have been no reports of causalities.

Dakshina Kannada

Parts of Puttur taluk in Dakshina Kannada received 47.3 mm rain, followed in Bantwal (37.2 mm) and Belthangady (22.2 mm). Parts of Puttur, Mani, Mulki, Udupi received good rainfall. In fact, the sky remained overcast whole day and the region received intermittent rainfall. Farmers have taken up agriculture activities in the region.


Moderate-to-heavy rain accompanied by thunder and strong wind lashed several parts of Shivamogga district giving much-needed respite from sweltering heat.

Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Sagar, Shikaripur, parts of Sorab and Thirthahalli received good spell of rain in the morning. Hosanagar received moderate rain in the evening. The rain that started around 9 am lasted for three hours in Sagar.
