Telethon for Haiti draws Hollywood glitterati

Clooney started the two-hour long event by donating USD 1 million in Los Angeles and also got friends Leo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock to do the same.

'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson led the UK leg of the event and shared stories from the aftermath of the earthquake.

"The Haitian people need our help. They need to know that they are not alone, they need to know that we still care," Clooney said while Jean urged people to donate from New York, saying, "My country is in great pain."

The event saw celebrities like Jay-Z, Madonna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake performing while Cindy Crawford, Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore, Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Vanessa Hudgens took to the phones to accept donations.
The telethon, which saw some 200 celebrities uniting for the cause was beamed around the globe on television, on mobile and internet. The event is expected to raise USD 1 billion for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Some of the other celebrities who have pledged their support for the massive fundraiser are Jack Nicholson, Jennifer Aniston, Penelope Cruz, Billy Crystal, John Cusack, Stevie Wonder and Bill Clinton and many others.
