Revenue officers in Bengaluru Urban district will go on mass leave on Wednesday to protest against reported threats given to them by the real estate mafia and police inaction despite “specific complaints”.
Assistant Commissioner of Bengaluru South sub-division, L C Nagaraj, told reporters on Tuesday that attacks had become “quite frequent” as anti-social elements no longer feared law-enforcement agencies.
“Recently, a builder barged into my chamber and threatened me. I made a complaint to the police but till today no action has been taken. This is not an isolated incident. Most of us are being targeted. We are under tremendous pressure to act against illegalities. If we don’t take action, we will be hauled at courts. If we act, we get threat from realtors. We want protection,” Nagaraj demanded.
The officers made it clear that going on mass leave on Wednesday was “just an indication”. If the situation doesn’t improve, revenue officers from across the State would go on “mass leave”.
