Engineering students arrested for cheating

Two students of a City-based private engineering college have been arrested on charges of cheating a Gujarat resident of Rs 15 lakh by promising him an MBBS seat here.

The arrested are Rameshwar Mitra, 25, a native of Bihar and Abhijit, 25, of Jharkhand. The police have recovered Rs 8 lakh in cash from them. Another suspect Ranjit is at large, said the police.

The trio collected Rs 15 lakh from Govind Ketan, a native of Gujarat, promising him a medical seat in a college in Bengaluru six months ago. However, they failed to keep their promise and avoided Ketan. Ketan recently lodged a complaint with the police. Mitra is a student of BE (Electronics), while Abhijit is a student of BE (Mechanical). They have been remanded in police custody till July 13, added the police.

Vendor found hanging

A street vendor reportedly hanged himself with a rope from the ceiling fan at his home on Modi Road in DJ Halli on Wednesday, reportedly because he had suffered losses in business.
Police gave his name as Sanaullah, 24, who was hawking clothes on footpaths. He took extreme step when his wife was not at home.
