<p>A CRPF constable shot dead his colleague while they were on duty during a mass protest led by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) which is spearheading the demand for a sub-division in Tihu town. <br /><br /></p>.<p>According to sources, Amal Das, 35, a havildar of the 136 battalion CRPF, fired indiscriminately from his automatic rifle at a CRPF Assistant Sub-Inspector, DC Bandolai, and injured six others. <br />Bordoloi and a student identified as Himngshu Tamuli were killed in the shooting.<br /><br />The rally was authorised by authorities and peaceful until the ghastly incident.<br /><br />Police sources added that, the protesters were supposed to submit a memorandum to the government at 10:30 am when an altercation broke out between Amal Das and his colleagues.<br />Amal Das suddenly opened fire at Bardoloi and four other CRPF jawans.<br /><br />Amal Das first tried to flee and later tried to kill himself, but he was overpowered and beaten by the locals. He is being treated at a hospital. However, his condition is critical.<br /></p>
