'Shiradi Ghat to reopen on Aug 9'

District in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai has said that the Shiradi Ghat connecting Mangaluru with Bengaluru will be opened on August 9.

The minister said on Saturday that the work on shouldering (filling the edges) and fixing of signboards was in progress. “Initially, it was decided to open the road for vehicular movement on August 1. However, some work on filling the edges is pending and in the best interest of the vehicle users, it was decided to postpone the re-opening,” he said.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said the second phase of Shiradi Ghat work which includes asphaltation from Gulagalale (216 km) to Heggadde (237 km) and concreting from Kempuhole (250.62 km) to Addahole (263 km) will be taken up . “A meeting will be convened to decide whether to take up the work by closing the road or to allow vehicles on one side of the road,” he said.
