Mumbai trounce Warriors to regain top spot

Last Updated 09 August 2015, 20:01 IST

U Mumba regained top position in the table after a comprehensive victory over Bengal Warriors at Thyagaraja Sports Complex on Sunday. The final scoreline was 31-17.

After winning eight on the bounce in the ongoing season 2 of Pro Kabaddi League, Mumba had tasted their first defeat just two days back against defending champions Jaipur Pink Panthers.

The game started with both teams assessing the opponents and playing cautiously. However, U Mumba made it 3-1 by the 5th minute, Pradeep Kumar's back heel catching Deepak Kumar. Bengal, coming into the game after a hard fought win over Dabang Delhi on Saturday, made defensive lapses and the likes of Anup Kumar capitalising on them. Half-hearted defensive tackles didn't help their cause and the defensive structure was not maintained.

By half-time, Mumba got an allout and the scoreline read 15-6. In the second half things got worse for the Warriors as after an offensive foul, captain Mahendra Rajput was taken out by Mumba's defence. Decisive raids by Pradeep Kumar and Bhupender Singh stretched the lead to 13 points within five minutes.

Warriors then had the best five minutes of the game, scoring an allout and winning 9 points on the stretch, cutting the lead to 4 points (19-15).

Jaipur thump Delhi

In the day's other match, Kashiling Adake's scintillating raids secured a much need victory for Dabang Delhi over Patna Pirates.

Delhi beat Patna 45-25 and stayed on the fifth place with 23 points. Patna maintained their fourth spot with 25 points.
