Movie buffs are in for a treat as the second edition of Israeli film festival will be held in the City from August 14 to 30.

Acting Consul General of Israel Dov Segev Steinberg Tuesday announced that nine Israeli films will be showcased at Alliance Francaise, Bangalore International Centre and Suchitra Film Society.

Giving details about the film festival, Steinberg said,“Israeli cinema continues to find new audience. Seeing last year’s response, we have decided to bring the best films into the city this year as well. We believe that these events will bring Indians and Israelis (further) closer to each other.” The inaugural film will be the award-winning 'Desperado Square', a tribute to Bollywood’s showman Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Sangam’.

All films at the festival are in Hebrew with English subtitles. ‘Desperado Square’ (2001) revolves around the revival of a long disused cinema with a showing of Sangam, a famous Hindi film by Raj Kapoor, released in 1964. The plot of 'Desperado Square' both parallels and serves as a tribute to Sangam.

A 2011 film ‘2 Night’, a fast-paced movie, is about two people unable to find parking in Tel Aviv with a beautiful view of the city in the backdrop.  ‘The World is Funny’ (2012) is about simple people struggling through extraordinary circumstances. Sometimes the only answer to any problem is “The world is funny so we have to laugh”. The other films include ‘Frozen Days’(2005), ‘My Lovely Sister’(2011), ‘Nymphs in the Mist’(2007), ‘Out of Sight’(2006), ‘Restoration’(2011), and ‘Things behind the Sun’(2006). The entry is free for all the screenings. Complete details and listings can be found on the Facebook page Israel in Bengaluru.

Chairman of Suchitra Cinema and Cultural Academy  K V Ravindranath Tagore and President of Suchitra Film Society Shashidhara shared their happiness to be a part of the Israeli Film Festival for the second consecutive year.
