When media tycoon Peter Mukerjea’s wife Indrani Bora was picked up for the murder of Sheena Bora, her daughter with a previous marriage or liason, it was not by chance - but it was after two to three months of comprehensive investigations.

The investigations were personally supervised by Mumbai Police chief Rakesh Maria, who is one of the biggest crime and terror busters of India. What was most important is absolute secrecy - which the cops could do. Maria had put some of his most-trusted officers on the job including that from the Khar police station.

Around two to three months ago, the investigations were launched based on a tip off from a very credible source - and a special team was formed to do the investigations. Plainclothesmen had tracked Indrani and her driver Shyam Rai  for several days - and discreetly kept on gathering details like cellphone records of Indrani.

It was not an easy case to crack, it required lot of planning, coordination and supervision,” a senior Maharashtra police official said.

It was a difficult job, as Indrani was to travel abroad and any wrong move from their part - would have sabotaged the entire operation as she would not have returned to India. Besides, police also slowly started collecting details about her from Page-3 or elite social circuit and also about her past. Police teams were fanned out to several locations to crack the case.

Besides, documents related to Indrani and Sheena too were collected from various places - in a bid to bolster the evidence including Guwahati, the hometown of Indrani.
