400 pc hike in honorarium for chiefs of corporations

The State government will soon effect a multi-fold hike in the honorarium being paid to non-official chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of statutory boards and corporations.

The monthly honorarium paid to non-official chairpersons of statutory corporations and boards has been increased four times from Rs 9,000 to Rs 40,000 while the hike is three fold for vice-chairpersons from Rs 9,000 to Rs 30,000 per month.

There are nearly 80 statutory boards and corporations in the State. The non-official chairpersons and vice-chairpersons are political appointees. The appointees had recently complained to chief minister Siddaramaiah that their remuneration was too low. The hike will come into force from October 1.

In addition, the house rent allowance for chairpersons of boards and corporations in Bengaluru limits has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per month and for non-Bengaluru region from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000.

For the first time, non-official chairpersons will get a one-time furniture grant of Rs 30,000 while the amount for vice-chairpersons has been fixed at Rs 20,000.  The hike will cost the exchequer an additional burden of Rs 1.5 crore per month, sources in the finance department said.
