The Central Crime Branch sleuths have arrested a 30-year-old man on charge of cheating several women of their money by promising to marry them.

The arrested has been identified as Manoj Gogoi alias Manu, a native of Chandigarh and a resident of GM Palya in New Thippasandra. Police said that Manu was arrested on the basis of the complaint filed by Mansi (name changed), a victim, at Saketh police station in New Delhi.

Manu used to upload his profile on various matrimonial websites claiming himself as an employee with Apple. He befriended women through these portals promising them that he gets 45 per cent discount on Apple products. Believing his words, the victims deposited cash in his bank account in the hope of getting Apple products at reduced rates. However, after receiving money Manu dodged the women and blocked them from his list of contacts. In some cases, he took women for a tour and had sex with them, promising marriage. Later, he would avoid the victims saying his parents did not agree for the marriage, police said.

“It was found that he was in a live-in relationship with a woman for the past five years. She works with a well-known company and the woman was pestering him to get her married. During the interrogation, we checked his mobile phone and he used to chat with 15 to 20 women at one go. He would project himself as a high-profile person and attract the victims. He even had a fake identity card of Apple company and a driving licence,” they said.
