InGenius 2015’, a 24 hour hackathon presented by PESIT South ACM and Zwibe in association with Mozilla, InMobi, Zopnow, RoadRunnr, Union Bank of India, Bootmeup and Vantage Agora, was held recently at PESIT Bangalore South Campus. This was the fourth edition of the programme and received registrations from 192 teams including those from Manipal, Calicut, Suratkal and Vellore. Over 70 teams of two to three members each were shortlisted on the basis of their hack ideas.

These teams worked for 24 hours to pitch, code and launch their ideas. Participants stayed up all night and punched codes furiously into their computers, hoping to develop the technology for the next generation.

They were guided by mentors and judged by an esteemed panel possessing vast knowledge of domains ranging from hardware, analytics and AI to web and application development. After the top 10 teams presented their ideas on stage, the judges deliberated and adjudged ‘Team Gizmo Geekz’, comprising Chirag Goel and Mushtaque Ahamed, the winners after a grilling Q&A round.

Their fitness app that recognises the number of calories in a food item, when one clicks its picture and tracks food habits, won them a cash prize of Rs 30,000.

The second place for Rs 15,000 was a tie between ‘Team Jarvis’ and ‘Team Leo’. These teams created an IOT minded home/personal assistant server and a robot that detects cracks and strength of floors respectively.

A bunch of participants were also in the running for internships being handed out by Zwibe and the associate sponsors of the event.
