The police on Tuesday arrested a homemaker and her lover after she helped him to “steal” Rs 1.30 crore from her house in JP Nagar.

Police identified the arrested as Kumar Gowda, 30, from T Dasarahalli, and Shruthi, 31, wife of the complainant Ramachandrappa, a fabricator. They have recovered Rs 1.06 crore cash and two vehicles.

The police said that Shruthi was having an extramarital affair with Kumar, a realtor and resident of T Dasarahalli. He had suffered financial loss and was deep in debt. He had asked Shruthi to help him repay his debt. Meanwhile, Muniraju, a relative of Shruthi and Ramachandrappa, had kept Rs 1.60 crore in cash in their house. Muniraju, also a realtor and land developer, resides in Hosakote.

He used to carry huge money for his business and had kept it in Ramachandrappa’s house for safe custody. Shruthi got to know about the money decided to help Kumar. She told Kumar about the cash in the house and also gave him a duplicate key of the house, suggesting him to loot the money, added the police.

She informed Kumar that she along with her husband would go to drop her son, who studies in a residential school in Chikkamagalur and also visit Dharmasthala and Kumar can take advantage of their absence.

“On October 30, Shruthi, along with her family left for Chikkamagalur. On October 31, Kumar went to Shruthi's house, took the cash and left the place. He ransacked the house and broke the lock of the main door, to make it look like a theft. The next day, Ramachandrappa returned home and found the house burgled.

The JP Nagar police found something amiss. Ramachandrappa said the cash was kept in a shelf and the thieves had laid their hands at the place precisely. “There were no attempts to break open the cupboard in which valuables were kept,” a senior police officer said.

The police suspected the role of insiders and questioned Shurthi, who spilled the beans.
