Member of Legislative Council V S Ugrappa has said that the charges against Upalokayukta Justice Subhash Adi were more serious than those faced by Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, Ugrappa said that the Upalokayukta has exercised his powers on Dharwad, Belagavi districts though he had no jurisdiction over them. “The government has the evidence to prove that he has not only overstepped his jurisdiction in cases pertaining to Dr Shaila Patil and his son-in-law G A Gangadhar Swamy, but also in several other incidents. He indulged in nepotism which is more dangerous than bribery. So, the Upalokayukta should resign immediately,” Ugrappa said.

Referring to the BJP’s opposition to the government’s move to remove Upaloakyukta, Ugrappa said that the BJP, on the one hand was demanding resignation of the Lokayukta, but defending the Upalokayukta on the other. “This cannot be accepted. We are not doing politics like BJP. Both are corrupt and they should go in the interest of Lokayukta institution,” he said.

Without mentioning the name of Ramachandrapura mutt seer Raghaveshwara Bharathi, Ugrappa said that all those accused in rape cases should be punished no matter how influential they were. “The probe into the case is moving on the right path. It may have been delayed.  We are confident the victims would get justice,” he added. Ugrappa is also the chairperson of the expert committee on preventing sexual violence against women and children.
