Acting on a tip off that a group of militants were hiding in a cave hideout in Lobar Goha area of Marmat belt in Doda district, Rashtriya Rifle troops launched a cordon and search operation in the area, police said.
During search operation, troops came under heavy firing from militants and retaliated, resulting in a gunbattle, they said.
The slain militants have been identified as Muzaffar and Zakir.
Zakir, a Pakistani trained militant was an IED expert involved in various IED blasts during the past four years, they said.
He was also involved in the killing of two Special Police Officers (SPOs) in August last and three civilians in September last year.Two AK rifles, magazines and ammunition rounds were recovered from the possession of the slain militants
