Nirmala bats for trade between India, CLMV

Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that there is an immense trade potential to the tune of  more than $11,000 million between India and Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam -- CLMV countries.

“India’s trade with the CLMV countries is over $11,000 million, and there is a huge potential,” she said.

Delivering the keynote Address at the third India CLMV Business Conclave, being organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the minister said the tri-lateral highway, connectivity in the North East, port connectivity improvement and the Act East policy are moving in that direction. 

Stating that the External Affairs study proves that there is a huge potential of about $100 billion of additional export, she said that there was a need for Indian banks to establish their branches overseas.
