Karavali Gaurava Prashasti for Dr Olinda Pereira

Vishwas Trust Director Dr Olinda Pereira has been selected for the ‘Karavali Gaurava Prashasti’, given by the Dakshina Kannada district administration during the Karavali Utsav celebrations at Kadri Park on Tuesday at 6.30 pm.

Briefing reporters, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that a committee led by senior writer Dr B A Viveka Rai had selected the awardee. The 91-year-old Dr Olinda Pereira has served as principal of the School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya in the City. She has also served in the Philippines and Kenya.

For the last several years, she has been working for the welfare of women, children and senior citizens. She has started a community development centre, a school for blind, a home science institute, and an anganwadi at Ullal. Dr Pereira has won Mahatma Gandhi Award from the Hamilton University in Canada.

Sarvotham award

The deputy commissioner has said that District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai will present the district-level Sarvotham award to six government officials at the Republic Day celebrations at Nehru Maidan on Tuesday.

The winners of the Sarvotham award are RFO P Sridhar, SP office superintendent A Ravichandra, first division assistants at the deputy commissioner’s office B Haider Ali and Prabhakar, supervisor at Women and Child Welfare department Manjula, D-Group employee at Horticulture department Ramesh.

Deputy commissioner’s office superintendent Sheikh Hasan Saab has been selected for the State-level Sarvotham Prashasti.
