Results of ZP, TP polls will be announced on EC website today

For the first time, the results of the Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections will be annou-nced on the Election Commission (EC) website (www.karsec.gov.in), immediately after the process of counting of votes on Tuesday. The details of the candidate—winner, name of the party and total number of votes secured will be published on the website.

Addressing reporters, here, on Monday, Deputy Commissioner C Shikha said, “The District Administration has made elaborate arrangements for the counting of votes of ZP and TP elections, that were held on Saturday. As per the directions of the Election Commission, the results will be announced on the website, as the counting process progresses on Tuesday.”

The process of counting will commence at 8 am at all the taluk headquarters across the district and the results are expected to be out by 2.30 pm. All over, 920 candidates have contested for 49 ZP and 187 TP constituencies in the district.

“The total percentage of voting in the district was 74.65. Of 14,32,818 voters, 10,69,652 voters had cast their right in 1,794 polling booths across the district. A total of 135 counting tables in 17 rooms for ZP constituencies and 187 tables in 32 rooms for TP constituencies have been arranged,” she said.

The District Administration has deputed 238 personnel for the counting process. For each table, a counting assistant and a supervisor have been deputed. The counting of postal ballot will be taken up first and later the votes recorded in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The Election Commission has received 1,139 postal ballots out of 2,080.

To maintain secrecy, agents of candidates, who will be allowed inside the counting centres will not allowed to carry mobile phones, cameras and other items. As a precautionary measure, police protection has been provided near every counting centre and 28 ‘Striking Force,’ four for each taluk, has been constituted, the deputy commissioner said.

Ban of liquor
The deputy commissioner has declared a banned on sale of liquor from Monday midnight to Tuesday midnight across the district.

Shikha said to ensure safety, sale of liquor had been prohibited.

Additional Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh and Tahsildar Naveen Joseph were present during the press meet.
