Horamavu residents walk to conserve lake

 More than 200 people participated in the Lake Awareness Walkathon at Horamavu Agara lake to raise awareness about lakes and their conservation on Saturday.

Organised by the Horamavu Parisara Abhivruddhi Samiti (HPAS), the walkathon was followed by programmes such as workshops, bird-watching and competitions for children.

Addressing the gathering, KR Puram MLA Byrathi Basavaraj pledged his support for the rejuvenation of the lake and making Horamavu ward plastic-free. Sanjay Kumar, Horamavu ward health inspector, BBMP, said that the City generates 4,000 metric tonnes of garbage daily and urged people to segregate waste at source.

To promote the good practice, the Palike would shortly distribute garbage bins to households to facilitate separation of their waste, he said. Ted K Dass, managing trustee, HPAS , stressed upon the motto ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ to break free from the cycle of generating large quantities of garbage daily. Horamavu corporator Radhamma Venkatesh  participated in the walkathon.
