Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has set off a political row by equating JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar with Bhagat Singh — hero of India’s freedom struggle.
A day after the Congress leader, while addressing the agitating JNU students in the university campus, said that Bhagat Singh was the Kanhaiya Kumar of his time, the BJP lashed out at him for his remark, saying it was an “insult to the great freedom fighter" and all the patriots.
"Bhagat Singh went to the gallows chanting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ while fighting for the country's independence. Comparing Kanhaiya with Bhagat Singh is an insult to the freedom fighter and all the patriots.
Tharoor should tell if Kanhaiya is Bhagat Singh, then what are Rahul and Sonia Gandhi,” BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said.
