This ‘Ugadi’, hotels across the city are offering traditional delights in all its flavours. Metrolife  brings you a roundup of what’s on the platter.

Taj Hotels is offering guests the quintessential South Indian experience with its festive culinary feasts on April 8.

At ‘Karavalli’, The Gateway Hotel, Residency Road, one can enjoy the rich and traditional Karnataka cuisine and bring in the new year with ‘Bevu Bella’ (neem and jaggery).

Indulge in a banana leaf meal crafted by chef Naren Thimmaiah.

While the delicious main-course comes with traditional delicacies including ‘Kaalu Usli’ (sprouts
tempered with Mangalurean homemade masala) and ‘Southekai Pachadi’ (Mangaluru cucumber
cooked with curd and ground coconut), guests can also savour other Mangalurean delicacies like ‘Ananas Saasive’ (sweet and sour pineapple curry with tempered mustard) and ‘Dal Thovve’ (traditional lentil tempered with mustard, chilli, ginger and curry leaves).

Desserts include ‘Kadlebele Payasa’ and ‘Kadubu’. This is available for lunch.

‘Latitude’, the multi-cuisine diner at Vivanta by Taj-Whitefield is celebrating ‘Ugadi’ with authentic flavours over a lavish menu created by executive chef Satya Kedharnath.

Guests can savour delicacies such as ‘Puliyogare’, ‘Obbattu’, ‘Sakre Pongal’, ‘Saggubiyyam Payasam’ and ‘Medu Vada’. This is available for lunch.

‘Dakshin’, the speciality restaurant at ITC Windsor, is all set to drench itself in the colours of a new beginning on April 8.

The restaurant will exhibit ‘Celebrated Tastes of Southern India’ in all its vitality and showcase items like ‘Majige’ (buttermilk), an assortment of deep fried lentil dumplings, ‘Kadle Gojju’ and ‘Obbattu’.

One can also treat themselves to ‘Kootu Saaru’ and ‘Hookosu Khara Palya’, a spicy and tangy cauliflower preparation.

These dishes are available for lunch and dinner.

‘Southindies’ has a special buffet meal for lunch and dinner to celebrate ‘Ugadi’. The menu is the creation of chef Manu Nair who crafted it after visiting many South Indian houses to
recreate the authenticity of the festival.

The ‘Ugadi’ menu consists of favourites like ‘Bevu Bella’, ‘Vazapoo Gareyellu’, ‘Raw Banana Bhajji’, ‘Puliohara’, ‘Raw Mango Rice’, ‘Kadamba Sambar’, ‘Dodojanam’, ‘Chana Sundal’, ‘Holige’, ‘Jaggery Pongal’ and ‘Sheerannam’.

The restaurant will be decorated with ‘diyas’, flower hangings and rangoli at the entrance to signify the new year.

The special buffet meal is available from 12 pm to 3.30 pm and 7 pm to 11 pm.
