Dos & don'ts to stay healthy this summer

Last Updated 15 April 2016, 20:23 IST

Sweating is less in people because of lack of low humidity. Thus people complain a lot of dry and burning sensation in the skin. People should apply a lot of moisturisers and should tab themselves with tapped water. Drinking a lot of water and juices is advisable. It has also noticed that tolerance to heat is less because of more usage of air conditioners.

Dr K S Kumar, Ophtalmologist: We find many patients suffering from conjunctivitis. Hence, people are advised not to run their eyes with their hands instead they should use soft cloth, tissue or cotton. Viral and bacterial infections can happen because of dryness in the eyes. There are also cases of allergic conjunctivitis, itching cases are other eye problems which people suffer from in summers. If people feel burning in the eyes they can use lubricant eye drops and antibiotic eye drops.

Dr Shalini Joshi, Consultant Internal Medicine, Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Roa-d: Cases of sneezing, headache and allergy are more because people suddenly move form air conditioned environment to the summer heat. Cases of dehydration are also high because of people do not eat and drink properly. Thankfully compared to previous years severe health issues like H1NI or dengue are not reported so far. However, cases of gastroenteritis were reported.
