Rising temperature and scorching heat brings in problems for your skin. And skin tan is the most worrisome amongst them. While a tan may be attractive for some, for others it’s just one of the dreaded hazards of summer. Besides, darkening your complexion, it can also harm your skin. It also results in dark to light patches all over. The sun can do much more damage than simply give you painful sunburns. Tanning, pigmentation and wrinkles are some of the many harmful factors of the Ultraviolet Rays.

Preeti Seth, wellness expert from Pachouli Spa & Wellness Destination tells Metrolife, “One must always apply sunscreen lotion on the face, half an hour before you step out of your home and carry an umbrella or wear a hat to protect yourself, if possible.”
Consuming a lot of water and eating fruits is a necessity which should not be ignored, according to her.

If you cannot avoid going out in the sun in-between 10 to four in the day, de-tanning at home is also easy.

“Tomato pulp, lemon juice, potato juice, egg white with honey, curd and besan, all are very good home remedies for de-tanning one’s skin,” says Seth.

Though tanning may seem like a huge concern for ‘fair’ people, pigmentation affects everyone and should not be ignored.

Dr Anurag Dixit, dermatologist, SCI International Hospital says that finding some time to make skin packs at home could prove beneficial in the long run.

“Normal skin and skin with pigmentation problems, seem  to look darker when exposed to the summer sun. For reducing pigmentation, mix together the juice of six peeled cucumbers, two cups powdered milk and two teaspoons dried lavender flowers. Apply the above paste directly on the affected areas of the skin. One cup of the mixture added to lukewarm water can be used as a skin smoothening balm,” says Dr Dixit.

For sunburns, Dr Dixit advices to use sun block lotion of SPF 30 for normal skin and of SPF 45 for light skin, to be applied every three hours as the effect of these lotions fizzle out in a few hours.
