Mumbai FC and Shillong Lajong recorded much needed wins in their final tie to stay afloat as the I-League drew to a conclusion on Sunday.

Mumbai and Lajong needed wins to ensure their top flight status and the sides did exactly the same by beating newcomers DSK Shivajians and East Bengal respectively. Their wins meant, Aizawl FC were relegated to the lower tier.

At the Cooperage grounds in Mumbai, the Khalid Jamil side stuck to their game plan to outplay DSK in what was a Maharashtra derby.

The Mumbaikars scored twice in the space of two minutes in the first half, with a couple of well-taken goals from Jayesh Rane (20th minute) and Eric Brown (22nd minute, 90th minute).

Sushil Singh scored the third (38th minute) from outside the box right before half time; and Brown secured a thumping win for Mumbai as he added a fourth right at the death.

Meanwhile in Shillong, the Thangboi Singto-coached side lived to fight  another day as the Reds avoided the drop thanks to a 61st minute Isaac Vanmalsawma effort in a famous win over Kolkata giants East Bengal.
