R Sudharshan, a student from Chinmaya Vidyalaya in the city has made the state proud being the second topper in the country in ICSE exams, the results of which were announced on Friday. It took him persistant efforts to be in the top and procure a 99 % score.

“I would study for three hours a day. I did not attend any tuitions and managed to grasp the subjects as my teachers taught in the class. Their teaching method was such that one could understand it with ease,” he added.

His individual scores are English (99), Sanskrit (95), History, Civics and Geography (100) and Mathematics (100), Science (96), Computer Applications (100) and scored a A grade in SUPW and Community Service.

For Sudharshan, the score was beyond what he had expected. “I thought I would score around 96%. I did not want to give my teachers hope and unnecessarily disappoint them if it turned bad. I kept telling them that I had done well but did not reveal my expected score. They would calm me down before the exam and there was no pressure from my parents. This helped me perform better,” he added.

This topper aspires to be a scientist. With interest in pure sciences, Sudharshan has enrolled himself to study Chemistry in Sri Vani Education Centre, Machohalli.

Sudharshan is presently attending a summer camp near Tumakuru. His father K A Ravi is a junior engineer in Bescom and mother S K Nalinakshi works in the police commissioner’s office as a typist. “He would work hard and his efforts were consistent. I am very proud of him," said Ravi.

Meanwhile, another student, Harshvardhan R from New Horizon Public School scored 98.2 per cent in the class 10 exams. The topper thanked his teachers who supported him throughout.

"I did not attend tuitions. My teachers helped me. I did not count the number of hours I put in to study. I took breaks in between and prepared for the exam," he said. Solving many model papers and school assignments on a regular basis helped him prepare for exams, said Harshvardhan. He aspires to be a mechanical engineer and has presently bagged a seat in Deeksha College, Indiranagar for PCMC stream.
Ghanavi Umesh of Sarvodaya National Public School in Vijayanagar scored 98.33 %.
Even Ghanavi did not attend tutorials and relied on her school teachers for training.

"My teachers are the most important people. Even after having listened to them in class, if I had doubts, I would take my mother's help," she said.

"I did not study on an every day basis. I paid attention in the class and did thorough revision during exams," she explained. She is aspiring for a seat in one of the IITs to pursue aeronautics. She has enrolled herself in the science stream at NPS Yeshwantpur.
