Rashmika, Prathibha enter quarterfinals

All the top four seeds in the girls singles -- Rashmika Rajan, Prathibha Prasad Narayan, SB Apoorva and Krithika Umes Chabria -- entered the semifinals of the KTTPA-AITA U-18 Championship Series junior tennis tournament at the Zeeshan Ali Tennis Academy courts here on Tuesday.

The top seed Rashmika of Karnataka continued her march, beating Kiran Rani 9-3 in the best of 17 game quarterfinal tie while the second seed Prathibha Prasad, also from Karntaka, beat Lakshmi Sahithi Reddy of Andhra Pradesh 9-0. The third Karnataka girl and the third seed, Apoorva defeated the fifth seed Sonashe Bhatnagar 9-7. Krithika, the fourth seed humbled S Bhumika of Karnataka 9-3 to book her slot in the last four round.

In the boys section, Deepak Senthil of Tamil Nadu, who upset the top seed, Sansidh Komaraju in the first round, advanced to the quarterfinals beating local lad, Rahul Shankar 8-5 in the second round.

Results: Boys singles (second round, pre-quarterfinals): Deepak Senthil Kumar bt Rahul Shankar 8-5; Theyjos Ogesh bt Nidish 8-5; Gautham bt Rajesh K 8-1; Yeshwanth bt Karthik Kumar 8-2; Varun Vaiko bt Anirudh 8-2; Sheikh Md Iftikar bt Preeth Kumar 8-2; Arjun Honappa bt Siddarth Arya 8-4; Apoorup bt Kavin M 8-3.
