Ministers suspect BJP's backing for police officer

Last Updated 08 June 2016, 20:03 IST

Many Cabinet ministers on Wednesday expressed displeasure at Deputy Superintendent of Police Anupama Shenoy for having threatened to expose Labour Minister P T Parameshwar Naik.

At the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the ministers suspected that the opposition BJP would be backing the police officer who has tendered her resignation. No officer can muster courage to openly take on the government. The BJP must be behind all these developments, ministers are learnt to have said.

But Siddaramaiah chose to remain silent on the issue. Naik and Home Minister G Parameshwara did not attend the meeting. Earlier, speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah said he has directed the state police chief Om Prakash not to accept Anupama’s resignations and convince her to continue in the service.

He said officials should remain sincere to the government. If any officer has any grievance, he/she should bring it to the notice of their higher-ups and get it solved. It is not proper to use social media to air their grievances, he added.

Meanwhile, Naik reiterated that he has nothing to do with Anupama’s resignation. “She is a police officer. The police department will find out her whereabouts. I have nothing to do with it,” he said in reply to a question by reporters on whereabouts of the officer.

Asked about the threat by Anupama to release a CD pertaining to him, Naik said the question should be posed to the person who issued such a threat. On Anupama’s demand for his resignation, he questioned her authority to seek his resignation.

Shobha targets govt
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru  MP and former minister Shobha Karandlaje on Wednesday said DySP Anupama Shenoy was another victim of “arrogance” of the state government officials.  In Udupi, she said IAS officer D K Ravi, police officers Mallikarjun Bande, Jagadish were at the receiving end of government earlier, despite honesty and commitment. She said Shenoy’s resignation should not be accepted and added that if BJP comes to power it will take steps to encourage officers like Anupama.
