Yoga Day in Mizoram amid opposition

The state government in Christian dominated Mizoram will observe International Yoga Day today amid opposition from churches and a section of civil society groups.

According to official sources, the event will be held in state capital Aizawl, like any other state. The state government programme will be a low key affair, well placed sources confirmed to DH. Earlier this month, leaders of a 13 major churches of Mizoram had appealed to parishioners to refrain from practicing yoga. 

Senior executive secretary of Mizoram Synod of Presbyterian Church has claimed that churches regarded yoga as something that is against the teachings of Christianity.
